The crowd is welcoming and lively, so everyone can let loose. It’s that time of the night when you can dance like no one’s watching and screech along to your favourite songs, drink in hand. You can wander from one spot to the next, stopping for a cheeky glass of prosecco or a cocktail. The Lanes also make for perfect photos. Every corner has character, colourful signs, quirky decorations, the perfect backdrop to your group shot. It’s got that effortlessly socialable vibe that Brighton does so well and is stylish but never pretentious.

North Laine: North Laine is a little more offbeat. Think craft beers, retro cocktails and small live music venues. It’s typically Brighton in that it’s artsy and relaxed but still buzzing. The Best Time of Year for a Brighton Hen Party

A Brighton hen do is always a good time, whenever you visit. Let’s take a closer look at what each season has to offer so your group can plan the ultimate getaway.

Spring (March–May)
Spring is when the weather starts warming up, the city awakens after winter and the crowds are still manageable. It can little chilly but it’s perfect for indoor activities like cocktail classes, bottomless brunch or visiting the local attractions and quirky shops in the Lanes without fighting for space. By April and May, the sun usually peeks out more often, making it ideal for fish and chips on the beach and exploring.

May is when the arts scene explodes. Brighton Fringe, the biggest annual open-access arts festival in England, fills the city with street performers, pop-up shows, immersive theatre, comedy and cabaret. It’s perfect for groups who love quirky entertainment. Right alongside it, Brighton Festival brings theatre, music, talks and exhibitions, from concerts to contemporary installations, so there’s something for everyone.

Summer (June–August)
Summer is Brighton at its fullest and most flamboyant. There’s nothing quite like it! The long, warm days are perfect for lounging on the beach, trying outdoor activities and enjoying beer gardens. Bars, clubs, and pubs are in full swing, often spilling out onto terraces. July is the time for Brighton Kite Festival, when the sky is filled with pretty kites and the seafront buzzes with families, food stalls and live music.

Early August brings Brighton Pride, one of the biggest and most famous events in the UK. The parade, parties, live music stages and street entertainment make the whole city one giant celebration. Even if your group isn’t there specifically for Pride, the energy is infectious, and themed parties pop up everywhere. It’s so much fun. Late August is also host to Foodies Festival, ideal for groups that love eating and drinking their way through the city. Gourmet street food, local beers and wine tastings can create your own food crawl.

Just remember that Brighton is extremely busy during the Summer months, so planning accommodation, restaurants and group activities well in advance is essential.

Autumn (September–October)
Autumn is a quieter and cosier alternative to summer. The weather’s still mild but the summer crowds have got smaller, giving your group space for shopping, exploring, eating and drinking.

October features the Brighton Photo Biennial, which brings exhibitions, installations, and talks all across the city. It’s perfect for a cultured day out. Autumn also sees Burning Nights events and early Halloween parties in bars and clubs, giving your hen do a cheeky edge if you like a bit of spooky fun. Restaurants often launch seasonal menus, and cocktail bars roll out autumnal specials, perfect for relaxed evenings after a day of sightseeing.

Winter (November–February)
Winter hen parties in Brighton are more low-key but can be magical if you love a bit of the festive feels. Shorter days mean more time in snug pubs, cocktail bars and restaurants. December is super festive in the city, with Christmas markets and gorgeous lights throughout the city centre. The Royal Pavilion ice rink also sets up and it’s well worth a visit where you’ll glide over the ice with the most beautiful backdrop. Winter is a great time for groups who love a cosy, indulgent hen do with mulled wine and good food.

Burning the Clocks takes place around the winter solstice. You’ll see lantern processions, bonfires, and fireworks along the beach. January and February are quieter, making it ideal for spa days, yoga classes, or cocktail masterclasses without fighting the crowds. Accommodation and activity costs are also lower, which helps the hen do budget go further. And who doesn’t love that?

Getting to Brighton for a Hen Do

How to Get to Brighton from London by Train: Brighton is well-connected to London. Trains depart from London Victoria, London Bridge, London Blackfriars and London St Pancras frequently. The journey usually takes around an hour, depending on service and stops. Because Brighton is a major commuter line, services are frequent, though during peak times, trains can get busy. If your hen group is travelling from London, book in advance and try for off‑peak slots if possible to save a bit of money.

Getting to Brighton by Plane: Gatwick Airport is the closest airport to Brighton, and it only takes around 30 to 35 minutes by train from there to Brighton train station. Some trains are direct and others require a change, so check each service. It takes around 40 minutes to drive if you’d rather get a taxi.

There’s no direct service to or from Heathrow Airport. You can get a train from Brighton to a central London point or via Thameslink connections and then onward to Heathrow. The journey takes roughly 2 hours 20 minutes or faster on the quickest route, around 1 hour 59 minutes, depending on connections. If your group has luggage, allow some extra time for connections, delays and transfers.

Getting Around Brighton During Your Hen Do

On Foot: Brighton is compact enough that many places are walkable. It’s a 10-15 minute walk downhill from the train station to the seafront, and you’ll pass a huge range of bars, pubs and places to eat on your walk. When it comes to night, you can easily walk between venues with the most popular pubs, bars and clubs in The Lanes, North Laines, West Street and seafront all relatively close together. We also recommend walking because it helps you to see more of the city. You never know what you might spot on the way!

Public Transport: Brighton is serviced by buses that cover the city centre and areas that are a bit further out like Hove, Seven Dials, Preston Park and Brighton Marina. There are also night buses which can get you around cheaply so you can rest those dancing feet. Bus frequency varies by route, so check schedules in advance, especially late at night or on Sundays.

Taxis: Taxis are a lifesaver for groups, especially after a night out or when your heels aren’t up for more walking. Brighton has plenty of black cabs # and app-based options like Uber, making it easy to get around quickly. For bigger groups, book in advance so you can get a vehicle to fit everyone in. Taxi fares are generally pretty reasonable, though evenings and weekends can be pricier, so plan ahead.

Party Buses and Minibuses: For a hen do in Brighton, hiring a private minibus, coach or party bus can be a brilliant idea. They’ll drop you off exactly where you need and minimise walking in heels or between locations. It’s more expensive, but the convenience for a group is often worth it.

Parking: If your group comes by car, parking in Brighton can be tricky and quite expensive. The city centre has limited on-street parking are several multi-storey and surface car parks around the station, Churchill Square shopping centre and near the seafront, but they fill up fast, especially on weekends or during events. It’s a good idea to reserve spaces ahead if possible. Also, have a think about the walking distance from the car park to your destination, especially if you’re wearing your best heels!

Travel Tips for Hen Groups

Book early: Whether you’re getting the train or a coash, book your tickets as soon as you’ve sorted out your hen party date.

Plan routes between hotspots: If your group wants a bar crawl, map the walking route before you set out. The lanes are a bit of a labyrinthine, so a rough plan avoids wasted time and confusion.

Mix walking and transport: Walk for the scenic or compact parts, then hop on a bus or a taxi for longer journeys.

Time for photos: Brighton has so many Instagram-worthy spots, such as the i360, the pier and loads of street art murals. Make sure to leave some time to take some photos without slowing the group down too much.

Night return options: If you’re out late, night buses, pre-booked taxis or private mini-coaches make sure that everyone gets back safely. Apps like local taxi booking or ride-hailing services work best late at night when buses aren’t as frequent.

Plan for weather: Brighton weather is generally good, but this is the UK so it can be breezy and unpredictable. Keep spare jackets or umbrellas on hand, especially if you plan to walk the seafront or move between venues.

Things to Do in Brighton

If you’re a group of culture vultures, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s so much to see and do in Brighton, alongside your hen party activities. The Royal Pavilion is a must-visit. This exotic palace with its domes and oriental interiors is perfect for a quirky photo op and a bit of history. Just a short walk away, the iconic Palace Pier offers traditional seaside fun with fish and chips, arcades, fairground rides and gorgeous views of the coastline.

For amazing views, the British Airways i360 observation tower is hard to beat. The glass pod gently rises over the seafront, giving 360-degree panoramas of the city, beach and South Downs. You’ll travel over 160m in the air, the perfect backdrop for hen party group shots and selfies!

Brighton’s Lanes and North Laine are a maze of quirky shops, independent boutiques, vintage stores, cafes and street art. They’re lovely places wandering, shopping and grabbing a cheeky cocktail along the way. Other highlights include the Sea Life Centre for animal lovers and the historic Brighton Dome and Theatre Royal for shows and exhibitions. Don’t forget to visit Hove seafront for a more chilled, less crowded stroll.
